Chilly Harvest Nights Review
Chilly Harvest Nights, the latest album from Genna Renee, is the perfect respite after a long, hard day. It’s the musical equivalent of a hot cup of tea by the fire or a relaxing bath with all the accoutrement. At just over 15 minutes long, it’s the perfect bite for any listener, and the album never overstays its welcome.
Except for one track, Chilly Harvest Nights is an album of seasons, an ode to change and cycles. Summer (“Dance of the Moonlight Jellies”) gives way to Fall (“Ghost Synth”), and Fall retreats before Winter (“Nocturne of Ice” and “Ancient”). These arrangements are tender, emotional pieces, stripped down to their bare essentials. The acoustic guitar washed in reverb is the star performer on this album as is Genna herself, but expect a few guests along the way, like the accordion and rainstick on “A Stillness in the Rain.”
There is a certain timelessness to this album, much like the rest of Genna’s music, and I couldn’t think of a more fitting tribute to a game like Stardew Valley that is all about the passage of time.
RATING: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
