GameGrooves Costume Contest Winners

For the inaugural GameGrooves Cover Contest, I challenged YouTube artists to design the most creative costumes possible for a video game cover. Needless to say, I was not disappointed by the entries which included the Donkey Kong family, a farmer, and the King of the Koopas. Read below for a more detailed description of the contest winners!

First Place

Kain White - “Hot Head Bop Acoustic Cover”

Where to start? From the delightfully chill arrangement to the hilarious costume designs, this track has it all. I should give credit to the collaborators (Prjz Calavera aka Funky Kong, Dacian Grada aka Diddy Kong, and RichGC aka Donkey Kong) for their efforts in creating such a fun, lively video, and I give this video 10 bananas out of 10.

Second Place

Rich GC - “Mines (Star Lumpy)”

The master of skits and costumes was destined to be on this list (twice, technically). For this Stardew Valley cover, Rich teamed up with Psycosulu (master of timelapse videos) to create this charming rendition of “Mines” which sees Rich battling with cave creatures. Top-notch pacing and editing are par for the course, making this a shoo-in for second place.

Third Place

Tornan Prince - “Bowser Theme Remix”

Last, but not least, TornanPrince crafted this electronic masterpiece that pays tribute to the big, bad Bowser. The costume might be subtle, but the small touches—red lights and mist—were much appreciated. I would have loved a Bowser growl at some point in the video, but hey, I’m not complaining. This is a solid entry from a talented artist, and I can’t ask for much more than that.

Thank you to all three of the entrants! Prizes will be sent out within a week, and if you didn’t participate, don’t worry—there will be many more cover contests to come!
