GameGrooves Is A Community

Marrow

In my previous articles, I’ve explained the origins of GameGrooves, and how it grew to be more than a website or a record label. Today, I want to discuss the most critical part of GameGrooves—the community. In other words, you, dear reader.

If you’ve ever read a GameGrooves article, listened to a GameGrooves track, or liked a GameGrooves tweet, you are part of the GameGrooves community. If I’ve learned anything over the last year of doing this, it’s that I should never take the GameGrooves community for granted. Without you, there would be no point in writing this article. Without you, there would be no one to spread the gospel of VGM. Without you, GameGrooves would be nothing.

A community is a great and terrible responsibility, and it’s one that I don’t take lightly. Just within the past few months, I’ve had to learn a lot of hard lessons about the way that I communicate, what to expect of VGM artists, and how to respectfully disagree with other people. I’ve seen what happens when other community leaders ignore, abuse, or abandon their communities, and in some cases, I’ve even had a hand in calling this behavior out. The truth is that we all make mistakes, myself included, so when I inevitably make a mistake, I depend on the GameGrooves community to set me right (aka give me a reality check).

GameGrooves exists to spread the gospel (good news) of video game music. I’ve spent the last five years of my life making friends, sharing music, and being a part of the VGM community, and with any luck, I’ll be doing this for another five years as well. I want you to join me on this journey, and together, we’ll make GameGrooves the best community that it can be.
