GameGrooves Heat Up Cover Competition Winners

It’s been one hot summer for a lot of us, and these 9 video game covers might be to blame! If you hadn’t heard, I challenged the VGM community to “make a video game cover/arrangement that makes you want to dance (any genre/style).” Well, nine different arrangers answered the call, and it’s no exaggeration to say that every single one of them is on fire! That being said, a few were hotter than the rest, so here are the winners for the GameGrooves Heat Up Cover Competition!

Best Dance - Subversiveasset

I’ll be honest; when I decided to have a “Best Dance” category, I was hoping to entice subversiveasset. While he’s primarily known for his cover stories, which bring lore-crafting to a new level, I also greatly enjoy the interpretive dances that can be found in many of his videos. This video in particular was a journey of both sight and sound, and I’m glad that Andrew was able to steer us through the Dark Matter Hyper Zone!

Second Place - 2-Tone 64

If there’s any music genre that makes me want to move, it’s certainly ska. 2-Tone 64 brought the heat and the hep to “Spider Dance” from UNDERTALE, and what’s more, he brought a lot of his friends to the party (Wurtzel, Dewey Newt, Harrison Rook, Linus Kuehl, Sean R. Hanson, and Evan Carville, to be exact). You don’t need to have eight legs to enjoy this song, although I say the more feet, the merrier when it comes to dancing!

First Place - PressStartStudios

I hadn’t heard of PressStartStudios before this competition, but I’m so glad to have been introduced to his music. This Outrun cover is the perfect track from the summer, mixing chill vibes with smooth moves that will carry you all the way to the finish line. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve replayed this track, which is why I gave it the highest score possible!

All Entries

Congratulations to all the Heat Up Cover Competition entrants! Be sure to show all 9 tracks some love as we sweat our collective butts off!
