Memories of Hyrule by Patti Rudisill could be described in many ways—playful, whimsical, and at times, pensive. It’s a quick, delightful tour of Hyrule, allowing listeners to relive their favorite moments from Breath of the Wild

For those familiar with Patti’s music, this album does not disappoint. Her emotive arrangements are better than ever, and the mixing and mastering ensure that every note sits exactly where it should. As for pacing, the album starts out strong and only gets better. By the time you reach “Hateno Village,” you’ll be ready for a quick breather, and Patti (along with collaborators Doug Perry, Michael O’Gieblyn, and Israfelcello) are happy to oblige. This track, my favorite on the album, is a faithful reinterpretation of the original, adding subtle textures and flavors that demand repeat listens.

With “Korok Forest,” our journey continues, and bright piano chords guide us on our way. “Molduga Battle” was a bit of a surprise (but a welcome one), allowing Patti to shine with some virtuosic playing, accompanied by some delightful percussive elements. “Tarrey Town” lives up to its name, giving us one final stop before the album closer “Kass’s Theme.” This album is a testament to Patti’s skills as a performer, arranger, and a collaborator, and it’s no wonder that my favorite tracks are the ones where she employs all three skill sets.

Much like a Korok, Memories of Hyrule entices us to let our curiosity and imagination run wild. To that, I say, “Yahaha!”

RATING: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
